A perfect excuse for a road trip, the BIG THINGS are dotted around the country. Ask anyone and you’ll get a childhood memory about that family holiday when they made a roadside stop and got up close to a gargantuan piece of fibreglass and paint in the shape of a mango / banana / apple / watermelon / mandarin or orange.

It’s not just fruit that got the giant treatment. The big Murray cod / crocodile / prawn / lobster and barramundi pay tribute to our marine life.

And don’t get us started on the big bugs – the stuff of childhood nightmares.

Starting in 1963 with the Big Scotsman in Medindie, Adelaide, the BIG THINGS are a fantastic photo op.

Opinions differ about which one is best. That’s why we created this infographic!
